Gasometer A was developed according to the plans of
star architect Jean Nouvel and
could be described as the „Palace of Light“ among the four
buildings.
Architectural lightness
Nine individual residential towers divided by four metres wide slots
are attached to the cylindrical shell of
the Gasometer. The slots allow light to fall through the Gasometer’s
windows into the interior, where it is reflected many times, creating exciting
effects.
The towers twelve storeys are clad in dark, reflective glass,
which creates a brilliant effect
as it multiplies the light falling in through the dome and explains why
Gasometer A is known
as a „Palace of Light“. The people using the shopping mall
underneath can also see
the play of light through a transparent ceiling.
